Greece is a country surrounded by the sea, with 15,000 km of coastline, 6,000 islands and rocky islets, with 8 months of summer and is one of the most popular tourist destinations.

It is not surprising therefore that a large number of vessels dock in the country and sail in the Greek seas. More than 170,000 pleasure boats and about 14,000 fishing boats are registered in Greece.

Annual boat sales are estimated to be €55 million and if accessory costs and machine sales are added, these sales exceed €90 million. Under Laws 2743/1999 & 4256/2014 all recreational and professional vessels sailing within Greek territorial waters are obliged to have civil liability insurance.

The requirements by law are for:

Boats

  • Private and rented motorboats
  • Private and rented yachts
  • private and rented speedboats
  • Sea mopeds – aqua scooters, mini cruiser, hover craft, sea beetle, sea bike, surf-jet, jet-ski

Apart from the legal obligation, however, the owner of each boat has the choice to fully insure his property (boat), family and friends (passengers), so that he can truly enjoy the unique experiences of relaxation and recreation offered by the sea.
